Lord Crosbie is an immensely talented master glassblower within the family of artists at American Fine Art Editions, Inc. Crosbie is a frequent guest artist at our state-of-the-art glass studio neighboring the gallery showroom where you can watch LIVE as the master of his craft transforms the molten glass into phenomenal works of art. With the speed of a top professional athlete, the precision of a skilled surgeon, and the grace and flair of Fred Astaire Crosbie delights spectators as he shapes the 2000º molten glass while adding color and exacting form. Glassblowing is an amazing medium requiring intense speed and quick thinking by the master, which makes it even more magical and entrancing for the audience to watch. The art of glass blowing is unlike any other media. Contact the gallery for future dates and times for LIVE glassblowing demonstrations at (480) 990-1200 or (800) 466-8276. The art of glassblowing fascinated the master glassblower Lord Crosbie from a young age when he was growing up in Blackpool, England. He received his formal glass training with the Venetian Glass Company from Italy after they opened a studio in his hometown of Blackpool. Crosbie’s fundamentals in the art of glassblowing stem from the education he garnered while working with the master glass blowers from Venice, the birthplace of fine art glass. Crosbie's approach to fine art glass is rooted in the tradition of Venetian glass blowing. For some 30 years, Lord Crosbie has developed his talents and expertise to become a master glass blower in hot glasswork. His art has been exhibited in the United States and throughout the world and is recognized for its high quality, distinctive style, and uniqueness of design. Crosbie is an artist of the purest kind exploring new techniques and learning more and more about his craft everyday he works. Crosbie describes his love of glass as “a fantastic, fluid art medium. I enjoy experimenting using new methods and techniques with the challenge of making something totally different and unique.” Crosbie is widely recognized for his entrancing glass jellyfish. These fantastic creations are organic, ethereal, and breathtaking works of art compounded by the natural beauty of the creature. The movement Crosbie captures in his jellyfish is astounding, their tentacles free-flowing and their bodies undulating to move them upward. Crosbie’s jellyfish creations rival the beauty found in natural marine life. The real mystery is how such movement can be captured by the master glassblower in this solid medium. In addition to Crosbie’s hand-blown glass jellyfish sculpture, he has developed several fascinating techniques with his hand blown glasswork including his: Refraction, Homage to Van Gogh, Petroglyph, Interpretation of Calder, Translucence, Landscape, and the breathtaking Magique series. Crosbie is always improving upon his existing techniques as well as playing with the medium creating seasonally inspired projects. This fall he created an installation for us entitled Fall Harvest with a cornucopia of hand blown glass objects with undulating vines and delicate fall leaves; inspired by the autumnal beauty and deep jewel toned hues of nature. Like the truest of artists, Crosbie’s imagination is never satisfied—he is constantly pushing the envelope, exploring new techniques, and experimenting with new materials. We have invented several new feats in the world of fine art glassblowing right here in our state-of-the-art hot glass studio. Unlike many master glass blowers, Lord Crosbie is a hands-on glass artist imagining the design and personally shaping and transforming the molten glass into his well thought out phenomenal art glass creations. Crosbie is his own one-man glass studio, with the exception of larger works where he may call in an assistant. Crosbie draws upon many of the great historical master glassblowers for inspiration and influence such as William Morris, Venini, and Franco Toffolo.
